May 12, 2011: A visit with Tony at "The Tiger Truck Stop" in Grosse Tete LA, off Interstate 10 Exit 139.Grosse Tete is a small town in Iberville Parish, Louisiana and is french for "Big Head".Grosse Tete is prounounced "gross tate" or "gross tet", rhymes with "VET",as in Veterinary Care needed NOW!

I live in Louisiana and make this trip to Baton Rouge,via Lafayette and Grosse Tete along Interstate10 at least once a month.Tony will be relocated at the end of this year, Dec 14, 2011.So I will get to visit Tony a few more times and take new videos before he is relocated to a place of calm & peace w/room to roam as he lives out the rest of his days.(UNLESS we can FIGHT FOR TONY's FREEDOM & LIFE and have this permit REVOKED ASAP!)Tony will be 11 years old in July.As I understand, these tigers can live up to 20 years ..perhaps longer,given conditions..but Tony didn't look good to me.Thin..listless and never got up from the concrete slab where he was lying down.I have seen other videos,some taken just a few months ago,where Tony was at least up and walking,or pacing..my video was taken May 12, 2011.Maybe Tony was just napping..but cats usually don't sleep that sound! I will be keeping a very close eye on Tony and will keep you updated with new videos. PROMISE.
It is very sad to see Tony in such an "exhibit",a "tourist attraction",a Truck Stop,right off Interstate I0 as you can see in this video.The noise is unreal,the smells,the fumes,the diesel,the air quality,the harassment by the "tourists", everything about this location is horrid. And Tony lives on a HOT CONCRETE SLAB under a HOT TIN ROOF, all by himself. Deplorable conditions! Unforgivable. Inexcusable.

Victory in Animal Legal Defense Fund's Lawsuit to Free Tony the Truck Stop Tiger
"Today, the law was upheld in the state of Louisiana, which has explicit regulations designed to protect tigers like Tony," says ALDF Executive Director Stephen Wells. "It is an incredible victory for ALDF, the tens of thousands around the world who have supported this campaign, and most of all, for Tony. We eagerly look forward to the day that he leaves behind the noise and fumes of the Tiger Truck Stop for a new life of freedom that he has never known." The ALDF, the Free Tony the Tiger Campaign and other agencies and concerned citizens ARE FIGHTING to get this current permit revoked NOW so Tony can be moved to a sanctuary ASAP and not wait until the permit expires Dec 14, 2011.

It is my understanding that Michael Sandlin, the owner of this truck stop and Tony, has 21 years of USDA violations and cited by the Feds at least 10 times for animal abuse. Tony has suffered enough ANIMAL CRUELTY from this ABUSER. Three tigers were removed from Sandlin because of ABUSE in 2003,and poor Tony was left behind? All these years,all by himself. People are very concerned for Tony ..as they should be and so should The State of LOUISIANA. This permit needs to be revoked NOW!!!
