From Jeff Dorson Exec. Director of The Humane Society of Louisiana « Free Tony The Tiger
This morning the following note was posted on Tony’s Facebook page from Jeff Dorson, the Executive Director of The Humane Society of Louisiana. Thank you Jeff and HSLA for your support of Tony. Local support is greatly needed for Tony and something which truly can have an enormous impact on getting Tony relocated to the home and life he deserves.
A huge “Thank You” to all of Tony’s friends who continue to be a strong voice for him and who never give up advocating for his freedom.
Jeff announced their support of the Free Tony The Tiger campaign and the formation of a national committee for Tony whose principle purpose will be “to develop a workable plan to transfer Tony to a new environment with a natural setting – and one that will attend to his social and medical needs.” If you are interested in serving on this committee, please send a brief bio with your contact information to Jeff Dorson, Executive Director, Humane Society of Louisiana, at stopcruelty11@gmail.com
Jeff’s Post
I have been in touch with other advocates who wish to free Tony as well, but I just discovered your website. I am the director of the Humane Society of Louisiana, and I am presently forming a national committee of people interested in devoting their time, energy and resources to help relocate Tony to an accredited big cat sanctuary. If you approve of this idea, would you mind sharing this invitation with your supporters on this site?
Dear Friends,
To help us focus our energies and develop one or more plans to secure Tony’s freedom and relocate him to an accredited big cat sanctuary, we are forming a free Tony the Tiger national committee. Committee members can live any where in the world, but must be willing to devote some spare time to developing and implementing plans that would help secure Tony’s freedom.
Committee “meetings” will be held in chat rooms and on conference calls throughout the next few weeks and/or months or beyond. We are looking for bright, energetic, creative, hard-working team players to serve on this national committee. Our principle purpose is to develop a workable plan to transfer Tony to a new environment with a natural setting – and one that will attend to his social and medical needs. Louisiana residents serving on this committee will be invited to meet with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries officials, other agency representatives, and visit Tony at the Tiger Truck Stop.
If you are interested in serving on this committee, please send a brief bio with your contact information to Jeff Dorson, Executive Director, Humane Society of Louisiana, at stopcruelty11@gmail.com
Sincerely yours,
Jeff Dorsonwww.humanela.org
Tony is a 12 year old Siberian/Bengal tiger used as a roadside attraction at Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete Louisiana. Tony’s owner, Michael Sandlin bought, sold, bred, and exhibited tigers for over 20 years. In 2003, because of violations Mr. Sandlin and the USDA made an agreement {after Sandlin threatened a lawsuit} where 3 of the 4 tigers he owned, Toby, Khan and Rainbow, were sent to Tiger Haven in Kingston TN. The USDA reduced the fines and allowed Mr. Sandlin to keep one tiger, Tony.
